Patio Enclosure Designs — Building With A Purpose

Ashley Hart

The installation of a patio enclosure will increase the use value of your patio. A screened-in or glass addition may use various layouts. Decide how you will be using the structure to guide you in choosing a building plan that is supportive.

The Layout Of An Enclosure

First, you will need to determine if you would like the current shape and size of the patio to remain intact. If your utilization of the patio has restricted how large social gatherings have been in the past, you may want to consult with your contractor about adding onto the patio. A new concrete slab can be poured alongside the patio, providing the hardscaped surface with more square footage.

The amount of sunlight or fresh air that you prefer when spending time outdoors may influence the patio design. For instance, if you live alongside the ocean, you may prefer being supplied with fresh ocean breezes during the evening. In this type of situation, you may choose to have large screen panels installed along the side of the patio enclosure that will be facing the body of water.

You may select to have solid glass panels and wall materials installed along the other sides of the patio. There are many ways that your contractor can build a custom enclosure. They can integrate doorways, screened sections, and other materials in the areas that will be the most beneficial to you.

The Construction Stages

Any work that is needed to upgrade the patio itself will be performed first. A contractor will clean the patio at the onset of constructing the enclosure. A permanent enclosure may contain a galvanized steel frame, screen panels, wall panels, and glass panels. An enclosure that consists of solid glass panels that make up each wall and a roof panel that makes up an enclosure will make your outdoor patio serve the same purpose as a sunroom.

People often choose a glass enclosure if they would like to use their patio year-round but do not want to be inconvenienced by cool temperatures. A contractor can use a screen and glass combination. This type of patio enclosure will be versatile, allowing fresh breezes to enter during the warmer months and blocking cold air during the colder months of the year.

Many structural systems that are used to build a patio will support the use of wrap-around screen systems. Once a contractor has erected the support frame pieces, they will unroll screen sections and secure them around the structure.
